Decay reads as a dark shadow in the fissures of the biting surface. By the time it is visible it has usually passed through the enamel and is spreading in the softer dentine beneath — which is why a small mark can sit over a much wider cavity.

Local anaesthetic first, always. The softened, infected dentine is taken out with a fine bur under water spray, and nothing else is. Sound tooth structure stays where it is, and the cavity is shaped so the repair has clean margins to bond against.

Surface Prepared
An etching gel is placed for a few seconds to micro-roughen the enamel and dentine, then rinsed away and the cavity dried. A bonding agent is brushed on and cured. This is the step that makes the repair grip the tooth rather than simply sit inside it.

Tooth Rebuilt
Composite resin goes in as thin increments, each one shaped to the tooth's own anatomy as the surface is rebuilt. A blue curing light hardens every layer before the next is placed, which controls shrinkage and protects the bond underneath.

Polished & Checked
The restoration is contoured and then polished until the tongue cannot find the join. Your bite is checked with articulating paper and any high spot taken down, so the new surface meets the opposing tooth exactly as the original did.
